Pike County Cattlemen’s Association History

The Pike County Cattlemen’s Association was organized in 1951 with Jeff Sorrell as the First President. The Pike County Cattle Women were organized in 1955 with Mrs. Roy Park serving as President. The Pike County Cattlemen’s Association has maintained 350 plus members since 1970, with this year’s membership at 389 to date and consistently ranks in the top five in the Alabama Cattlemen’s Association’s top county memberships. The Pike County Cattlemen’s Foundation was formed in 1991 for the purpose of educating and promoting youth in agriculture. Money from various functions of the PCCA Foundation like the rodeo, equipment sales, rent of facilities, profits from concessions etc go to improve the facilities and support 4-H, junior cattlemen, junior high and high school rodeo and various other youth groups. The Cattleman Park property was purchased in 1992. The first rodeo on the new property was held in May, 1993. The first rodeo in the new arena was held in May 1998. The banquet and meeting building was completed in 1999. This building seats 1,100 people with large stage, P.A. system, heat & air, restrooms and kitchen with concessions. The covered arena seats 3,000 people for rodeo and livestock events and 5,000 for concerts. There is ample parking on the 27 acre complex. The Troy University College Rodeo team is housed here as well. PCCA's Cattleman Park is located on U.S. Highway 231 just south of Troy, AL. It is conveniently located half way between Montgomery and Dothan. .
